May Chapter Newsletter

President's Report
As we head towards June and our Summer break from ASPE, I would like to take a moment and look back at the past year and what we have been able to accomplish. We have had great attendance at meetings this year and continue to see new faces and chapter membership grow. Thanks to all the members for their continued engagement and support. I specifically would like to take a moment to recognize the Chapter Board of Directors who have come together and contributed to the success of this organization.
Some of the highlights from this past year include:
- · Annual Cornhole Event
- · Celebrated our 25th Anniversary!!!
- · Pickleball Event
- · Established WOA program and supported and participated in Breast Cancer Walk
- · Established AYP and ran events
- · Established a monthly Newsletter
- · Continued to grow chapter membership and moved from Chapter Category B to C and gained one delegate for National Convention.
- · Held Monthly BOD meetings
- · Held combined meeting with NFSA
Registration is open for the ASPE Convention in Oklahoma City. If you are planning on attending, please use this link https://expo.aspe.org/. Note that Early Bird registration ends on July 27, 2026.
Registration is open for the June Chapter Meeting which will be held at SBC in Milford. Please note the day change – we will be meeting on Thursday June 18, 2026. So please make sure you mark that in your calendar – if you show up on Wednesday, we won’t be there. Hoping that we get to see some new faces or those who we have not seen in a while.
Lastly, as a reminder that we have early bird registration set for both your benefit and those planning our meetings. We need to have numbers to the restaurant for food to be prepared, so stop waiting until the last minute – Please.
As always if anyone has any questions, concerns, ideas or just wants to talk plumbing please feel free to reach out.

Technical News
May Technical Meeting Recap
The May technical meeting featured a practical and informative presentation by Casey Greene, Product Specialist in Fire Protection at ASC Engineered Solutions, on Fire Protection Hangers and Supports.
The presentation provided a straightforward and valuable overview of fire protection hangers and supports, focusing on proper selection, installation methods, and compliance with applicable codes and standards. Casey discussed the critical role hangers and supports play in maintaining overall system integrity and reviewed common installation challenges encountered in the field, along with best practices for ensuring reliable pipe support and long-term system performance.
Additional discussion included product solutions, design considerations, and coordination strategies intended to improve installation efficiency while meeting project and code requirements.
Attendees were highly engaged throughout the session, and the presentation was followed by a strong Q&A discussion. Casey was well prepared and able to thoroughly address the questions and comments raised by attendees.
A big thank you to Casey Greene for an excellent presentation and to ASC Engineered Solutions for generously sponsoring the bar tab for the evening.
We look forward to the June technical meeting on Thursday the 18th at SBC Restaurant & Beer Bar, featuring a presentation on Heat Pumps and Building Recirculation Systems by Nick Lane.

Legislative Update
Please see the latest updates regarding the CT codes submitted by VP of Legislative Roger Stolting
State Building, Fire Safety and Fire Prevention Codes Update:
The next state building, fire safety, and fire prevention codes were expected to take effect on July 1, 2026, but at this time, we await approval of the next codes by the Legislative Regulation Review Committee of the Connecticut General Assembly, and therefore anticipate the effective date may be delayed. The State Building Inspector and State Fire Marshal will review the status with the State Codes and Standards Committee and follow up with more information in due course.
Grace Period
The new codes will apply to projects for which a permit is applied for after the effective date. If you have a project that will be significantly impacted by this change in codes, you may apply for a code modification from the Office of the State Building Inspector and the Office of the State Fire Marshal (separate applications) to allow the project to continue under the previously adopted state codes. This process, colloquially known as a grace period, will be available for approximately three months from the effective date. See the code modification web page for more information.
If a municipality requires separate permit applications for each portion of a project (building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical etc.), then the primary permit application date will determine the code applicable to all permits for the project. For example, a new house being constructed had its building permit applied for before the new code came into effect, but all associated trade permits were applied for after the new code came into effect. In this case, all permits should be reviewed under the code in effect when the building permit (the primary permit) was applied for.
Care should be taken that the scope of the primary and associated trade permits match - for example, if a development of 20 new houses is broken into four phases of five lots each and a building permit application is submitted for lots 1 through 5, the associated trade permits must also be for lots 1 through 5.
